Texas

Texas is the second largest state in the United States with 268,000 square miles of land encompassing several major climates from subtropical to continental and including a wide stretch of marine climate. This gives Texas the unique distinction of having everything from warm, breezy nights with hot, humid days to regions with all four seasons. You can find Texas apartments in almost any North American climate you could desire.

Industry in Texas is quite varied, ranging from traditional agriculture such as cattle and crops to insurance and banking. Petroleum and natural gas are still solid industries, but tourism and electronics are quickly becoming power players. Part of the success of the tourism industry is due to the incredible diversity of things to do in the Lone Star State. Because these industries are booming, apartments in Texas are being built at one of the fastest rates in decades.

Outdoor Attractions

Texas has grasslands, mountains, major rivers and miles of ocean beaches – it is perhaps the most diverse state in the country. The many rivers, including the Colorado, Red, Rio Grande, San Antonio and Brazos Rivers, offer white water rapids, fishing and float trips through some of the most beautiful countryside imaginable. The Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River is a nationally protected area.

Guadalupe Mountains National Park is popular with climbers and campers while the Padre Island National Seashore is a Mecca for marine bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts and those who love to walk the beaches. The Gulf of Mexico offers dozens of beautiful sand beaches and boating opportunities. Many residents have Texas apartments in the cities and cabins in the wilder regions for regular vacation escapes.

Colleges and Universities

There are over two hundred fully accredited colleges and universities in Texas, giving residents a rich variety of educational opportunities. The larger cities such as Austin, Houston and Dallas have several colleges that are well known for their technical, computer and science related programs (many students serve internships at major Texas employers such as Dell and Compaq by renting a Texas apartment close to their internship program for a year).

Texas A&M and Texas Tech are two of the nation's top-rated technology schools. The University of Texas offers campuses in Arlington, Austin and El Paso to accommodate students from across the state and the University of North Texas is perfect for students looking for changing weather and a moderate climate. Texas Woman's University excels in the education field, producing top notch teachers every year.

Real Estate and Housing

Texas apartments are some of the least expensive in the U.S. Within the state there is a fairly broad swing in prices for Texas apartments simply because the state is so large. In smaller cities such as Abilene you'll find some of the least expensive apartments in Texas, while in major metropolitan areas like Dallas and Austin apartment prices are higher, but still below the national average.

The high demand for housing as more people move to Texas each year has resulted in a housing boom that means more Texas apartments are being constructed every year. Fortunately, the boom hasn't yet resulted in high rental prices.
